Do you enjoy checking out eBooks from Library to Go? Then you're going to be excitied about our news! Thanks to the hard work of the Alberta Government and The Alberta Library, the Shortgrass Library System is proud to bring you a second place to checkout and download eBooks from your library - Freading!
Freading is a new type of eBooks lending that offers simultaneous access to a wide variety of books from many different publishers. Over 20,000 titles are available and more are added weekly.
Freading users log in with their Brooks Public Library card and PIN and have full access to the entire collection. Each user is allotted a set number of tokens per week. These tokens are used to exchange for the eBook checkouts. Each book ranges in value from one to four tokens, usually based on the publishing date or popularity of the items.
Checkouts are for two weeks. eBooks can be renewed, usually for zero tokens, and can be returned early. Tokens can be accrued during a month of access, but are reset at the beginning of each month. Users will also need to install Adobe Digital Editions and set up an Adobe ID. Adobe handles the digital rights management and allows you to transfer eBooks from the computer to devices, when necessary.
eBooks from Freading can be viewed on either a PC or Mac computer, Any Apple device including iPods, iPhones, and iPads, Kobo eReader and Vox tables, most Androaid based tablets and phones, and on Nook eReaders.
But don’t take our word for it – go now to Freading and see for yourself how easy and fun Freading can be!
